  • Study Finds Queer Folks Are 20 Times More Likely to Be Activists Than Cishets

Lesbian, gay, and bisexual people are more likely to be activists in more than just the LGBT movement, according to recent research. It wouldn’t come as a surprise that people are most likely to engage in activism for their own group: There are far fewer men than women at feminist rallies, for example, and far fewer heterosexuals than queer folks at pride marches. But is there some crossover between social movements? In other words, are people who belong to one stigmatized group more likely to be also active in social movements that primarily affect other stigmatized groups? A new study using a

  • Research Shows Many Trans Folks’ Sexual Attractions Change After Transition

According to research, it isn’t uncommon for sexual attraction or orientation to change after transitioning from one gender to another. Most of these changes include shifts from exclusive attraction to one gender pre-transition toward some level of bisexuality post-transition…But some people claim almost complete reversal of their sexual orientation. For example, 13% of the trans women in the 2005 study switched from exclusive or primary attraction to women to exclusive or primary attraction to men (there were no such drastic changes among those who were initially attracted to men). Of the trans men in the 2013 study who were initially attracted to either men

  • Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Cuckolding: TSOS Podcast Ep. 17

Could cuckolding be a positive thing for some couples? Goes Deeper A new study just published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior investigated fantasies about and experiences with cuckolding in a large and diverse sample of gay-identified men. The study was picked up by the media, with CNN reporting “Cuckolding could be positive for some couples”, and FoxNews and other conservative media mocking CNN for doing it. Another fun tidbit about this study is that one of its authors is someone who most listeners are probably familiar with but is not a scientist and has never published an academic

  • What Turns On Women Who Are Into Casual Sex? – TSOS Podcast, Ep. 13!

Contrary to many popular stereotypes, there are many women who are as equally into casual sex as some men, but what do these women prefer when it comes to their partners? Goes Deeper A new study recently published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences found that women who are more interested in casual sex differ from women who are not into hookups in the kinds of men they’re interested in, especially when it comes to hookup partners as opposed to relationship partners. This week, Naomi Muggleton, the lead author on this study, is talking to us about her research

  • Are Bearded Men More Sexist Than Their Clean-Shaven Peers?

Two contrasting studies have people wondering: are bearded men generally more sexist than those who are clean shaven? In some cultures, having facial hair is a signaler of masculinity and general attractiveness, but in many of these cultures, masculinity is also associated with sexism, so researchers theorized that men with beards could be more misogynistic than those without. In order to test this hypothesis, they had over 500 men from the U.S. and India complete an online survey where they reported on their views toward women and the type of facial hair they had. Two types of sexist attitudes were

  • Understanding Male Sexual Aggression: TSOS Podcast, Ep. 12!

Our news cycle has been filled with countless examples of male sexual misconduct, from sexual assault, to harassment, to just general creepiness across virtually every profession and social sphere. With the exception of our groper-in-chief, this has professionally hurt pretty much all of these men, and while we seem to be doing better at holding the perpetrators of these crimes accountable, we are still having trouble identifying why these acts of sexual misconduct are so widespread. To help us explore this question, we interviewed someone who’s been studying male sexual aggression for almost four decades: Dr. Neil Malamuth at UCLA. Dr Malamuth is an
