Are Open Relationships Right For You? (Webinar) with Dr. Zhana!

November 15, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Are you considering opening up your relationship, but aren’t sure if that’s the right choice for you? Heard about “polyamory,” “swinging,” or “monogamish,” but aren’t sure what they’re all about? These alternative relationship styles, often combined under the umbrella of consensual nonmonogamy (CNM), are coming out of the closet as more and more people begin to think outside the box when it comes to love and sex, and they have certain benefits over traditional monogamy, or the more common “nonconsensual nonmonogamy” AKA cheating. But CNM relationships aren’t for everyone, and they definitely come with their own set of risks and challenges. How do you decide whether CNM is right for you and your partner(s)?

Join Dr. Zhana next Wednesday for this evidence-based interactive webinar, to go over 10 essential questions to help you decide whether you’re the right kind of person to enjoy CNM. Learn about the different types of CNM relationships, how they work, and the most important personality traits and skills you need for a successful nonmonogamous lifestyle! Follow along with polls and see how the rest of the group answers to these questions about ethical nonmonogamy. Plus, download my slides and a free handout with even more resources!

Only 10 spots available for this webinar! You’ll get an email confirmation with the link to sign up for the Webinar after you register on Evenbrite.

Is there a neural correlate to #nonmonogamy? A new study with a sample size of 10 monogamous and 10 non-monogamous men (mean age of 34) sought to find out. In this study, researchers examined participants’ brain activation in response to sexual and romantic stimuli. Results indicated that monogamous men showed more reward-related neural activity when viewing images designed to evoke the concepts of #love and #romance (including images independent of the participants’ own relationships) compared to non-monogamous men. Areas with increased activation for monogamous men were all in the right hemisphere and included the thalamus, accumbens, striatum, pallidum, insula, and orbitofrontal cortex. There were *no* significant differences between groups in activation to sexual stimuli. These results demonstrate that the neural processing of romantic images is different for monogamous and non-monogamous men, suggesting that non-monogamy is not just a random choice.
